Happy 2006!
Happy New Year everyone!
This is my last night at home; tomorrow I'll take a twelve hour train ride back to school. Bah, I am not looking forward to that.
But in the meantime, here's a end-of-year meme for your (or, rather, my) enjoyment:
1. What did you do in 2005 that you'd never done before?
Graduated high school, went to college. Alpha.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
If I made any resolutions last year, they've all been forgotten. I rarely make resolutions for just this reason. I know how I'd like to be better; I don't just decide at New Year's.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
No, but one of my best friends is due in February, and a friend of the family's daughter-in-law is due in, er, March? April? May?
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Fortunately, no.
5. What countries did you visit?
Same old same old.
6. What would you like to have in 2006 that you lacked in 2005?
A boyfriend. *cough*
7. What date from 2005 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Psh, dates don't stick with me. I'll remember orientation week of college forever, and Alpha, but no single day.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Probably my senior project - a whole freaking business plan that someone who'd owned a bookstore said was awesome and completely accurate. Also, finishing my first term of college with grades I'm not ashamed of.
9. What was your biggest failure?
I don't know about failure, but I was pretty disappointed that I didn't get into Macalester.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Well, headaches as usual, though they seem to have finally toned down a bit (*crosses fingers*). I had a really bad cold thing after I got back from D.C. - my ears were plugged for two weeks.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
All the best paid-for things I got this year are ones that were bought for me - Alpha, my laptop, college.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
My mom's, Alex's (after years of friendship, we finally started doing things outside of school!)
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
George Bush and everyone who likes him and/or goes along with his agenda.
14. Where did most of your money go?
All my books for school ($400+ for the two terms)
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Alpha, college, ALA conference in Chicago
16. What song(s) will always remind you of 2004?
The Alpha Teen Hunger Farce...Band CD, the Garden State soundtrack (particularly "Winding Road" by Bonnie Somerville), Britney Spears, "Toxic"
17. Compared to this time last year, are you
i. happier or sadder?: Happier, I think
ii. thinner or fatter?: I think about the same - I was thinner after the first month of college, but I think I gained all that back again
iii. richer or poorer?: About the same - I got a whole lot of money, then spent it all until I was about back at my starting point.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Writing.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Schoolwork (well, I wish I could have done less of it).
20. How did you spend Christmas?
At the annual extended family dinner for Christmas Eve, lounging around at home with my mom on Christmas Day.
22. Did you fall in love in 2004?
Nope.
23. How many one-night stands?
Zero.
24. What was your favorite TV program?
Veronica Mars. It's the only show on TV right now that I feel the need to watch every week.
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Hate, no.
26. What was the best book you read?
Uglies by Scott Westefeld, Twilight by Stephenie Meyer, The Boyfriend List by E. Lockhart
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Uhm, maybe Sister Hazel? I didn't buy very many CDs this year.
28. What did you want and get?
My own computer, college, to go to Alpha
29. What did you want and not get?
To get into Macalester, an iPod, a car
30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Uhm, I didn't particularly love any of the new movies that I saw this year.
31. What did you do on your birthday?
Absolutely nothing. Homework, heh.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Graduating on time, getting into Macalester, being more accepted by my college friends.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2005?
I don't really have a fashion concept. I'm a T-shirts and jeans girl. Though this winter break I've bought more "fashionable" clothes than I ever have before.
34. What kept you sane?
Reading, the computer, my mom.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Bah, none of them in a fancying way. I went a little obsessed with Alison Lohman though.
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Katrina
37. Who did you miss?
My mom, while I was away at college. Alphans.
38. Who was the best new person you met?
Alphans! ASfrjfl; the person I have a crush on. All my college friends.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2005:
You don't have to be the best so long as you do your own personal best.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year: (Mine is a whole song, sorry :P)
Well, the rain keeps on coming down
It feels like a flood in my head
And that road keeps on calling me
Screaming to everything lying ahead
And it's a winding road
I've been walking for a long time
I still don't know
Where it goes
And it's a long way home
I've been searching for a long time
I still have hope
I'm gonna find my way home
And I can see a little house
On top of the hill
And I can smell the ocean
The salt in the air
And I can see you
You're standing there
And you're washing your car
And I can see California sun in your hair
And its a winding road
I've been walking for a long time
Still don't know
Where it goes
And it's a long way home
I've been searching for a long time
Still have hope
I'm gonna find my way home
All these dreams took me so far
And I felt I just couldn't go on
And I want to hang
Out the window of your car
And see just how good this baby can run
'Cause it's a winding road
I've been walking for a long time
And I still don't know
Where it goes
And it's a long way home
I've been searching for a long time
Still have hope
We're gonna find our way home
It's a winding road
Still have hope
One day we'll find our way home
It's a long way home
I've been searching for a long time
Still have hope
We're gonna find our way home
It's a long way home
It's a long way home
